HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - After illuminating the human drama that unfolds inside law firms, hospitals and small-town America, producer David E. Kelley has turned his attention to high-tech gumshoes.

``Snoops'' is the working title of Kelley's new drama series which is expected to debut next fall on ABC. The project is in the early stages of development, but the premise is said to center around four people who work for a high-tech detective agency. There's no word yet on casting.

``Snoops'' is expected to fulfill the multiseries commitment ABC made to Kelley in late 1995. His ABC legal drama ``The Practice'' pulled off an upset win for best drama series at this year's Emmy Awards.

Other Kelley creations currently on the primetime schedule are Fox's legal comedy-drama ``Ally McBeal'' and CBS' medical drama ``Chicago Hope.'' On the feature front, Kelley's ``Mystery, Alaska,'' a comedy about a small-town hockey team, is due out from Disney next year.
