Calista Channels Ally

Calista Flockhart is apparently taking her work home with her. The Ally McBeal star, in an interview appearing in the September issue of Harper's Bazaar, sounds a lot like the anxiety-ridden, perpetually single, short-skirted attorney she plays on the hit Fox show.

Flockhart, when asked whether there was a special someone in her life, is quite definite. "No. No. Not at all. It's just…nah. Nope. I'm single. Single," stammers the actress. "And I think there's an epidemic right now, especially in my small circle of friends, who are all women with careers and no boyfriends, and they're beautiful, smart women. Somehow, the guys are all married, and the girls are all single. And you think, 'Why?'"

Flockhart, who has been romantically linked to Ally executive co-producer Jeffrey Kramer and was recently hit on by Garry Shandling at an awards show, believes there's a double standard at work. "It's so elusive, and the oppression is so subtle and confusing that it's much more insidious than it used to be," she explains. "We are all women who are told, 'You can have it all! You can have a career; you can have a husband; you can have a child!' And, suddenly, now, if you don't do all of that, you're a failure."
