Synopsis:

Season four coasted quietly to a close although Ally’s heart is still somewhere near the top of that last loop de loop.

Sunken shoulders, limp hair, hallucinations, yes, Ally is once again in romantic limbo. Clearly if you’re dreaming of being in Boot Camp you’re quite troubled or else watching too much FOX, which also by the way makes you quite troubled. Ally’s whimsical side is little help in a break-up, even less so are her dour parents who appear almost as content as Russell Crowe during an awkward Steve Martin joke.

Would you rather Ally show some hatred towards what’s his name for the way he dumped her? After all, he may as well have just gone on Oprah like Matt Damon’s so fond of.

So, Ally was assigned a case opposite what’s his name and whupping him in court might’ve taken off some of the sting, instead she lost to Corretta (what’s his name is in Detroit presumably singing aching renditions of Smokey Robinson tunes). Anyway, the case revolved around this Luke and Laura haired boy named Malcolm whose prom date backed out at the last minute. And despite the Mary Kay times we live in, no faculty advisors batted an eyelash when Ally walked in on his arm instead. They jiggied to KC and the Sunshine Band (uber hip with the kids) and Malcolm belted out a tune that revived the law gal’s spirits (in the real world the aforementioned uber hip kids would have laughed him off the stage).

The Yoda-riffic ghost of Billy promised Ally a happy life, meaning she has one season (we guess) to find a man, do you hope he’s John or someone new?

In the spirit of change, Richard brought in his newly brunette assistant Jane, and they attended the prom together which was, well, weird. Jane, meanwhile, reminded Richard of the kind of firm he once wanted and he decided that big changes are coming. Hmm, maybe you’ve heard something about a cast exodus.

Since Ally’s the only sure return, would you like to see her maybe move into a small town practice?

Season five is really anybody’s guess, but pilfering from NBC’s Ed wouldn’t be a terrible place to start.
